Alan Rogers Review
Lewis and Margaret Hudson run this small park close to the centre of Lairg and ideally suited for touring Sutherland and Caithness. Forty level pitches are reserved for touring caravans, motorcaravans and tents on well tended grass, and there are nine caravan holiday homes for hire. None of the pitches are marked, so the owner directs caravans and motorcaravans to the camping area and positions them correctly. Tent campers are able to select their own spot in a field behind the row of holiday homes. There are 15 electricity hook-ups (10/16A) and eight hardstandings, which are concrete below an inch of grass.
A licensed restaurant next to the reception (08.00-20.00) serves breakfasts, snacks and evening meals. Local activities include a weekly ceilidh at the village hall, a multisports area, walking, fishing (permits are arranged at park) and watersports on nearby Loch Shin. There are three buses daily to Inverness, and three trains daily further afield (timetable in reception). This is a superb location for exploring the Shin Triangle.
Clean, but basic toilet block with shower (only one in the ladies’) and hairdryer (both 20p). No motorcaravan service point although tanks can be drained in a manhole near the entrance. Washing machine. Restaurant. Basic camping requisites and gas exchange at reception; the nearest shop is 300 yds. Bicycles and barbecues can be hired. Max. two dogs per unit. WiFi (charged).
