Alan Rogers Review
This all year site is a good base for exploring Coimbra, an important university city and former capital of Portugal. Pitches are terraced, generally unshaded, of a reasonable size and most have electrical connections. A number of fully equipped chalets are available to rent. Leisure facilities are impressive, and include a swimming pool, paddling pool. beach volleyball, gym and an all-weather sports terrain. There is also a good restaurant here. The city centre can be easily accessed, thanks to the bus stop close to the site entrance.
Coimbra has a spectacular hilltop setting, on a bend in the Mondego river, and has a history dating back to Roman times. Its heyday was during the the 12th and 13th centuries, when it was Portugal’s capital. The entire town centre features on UNESCO’s world heritage list, and boasts a remarkable array of civic buildings, many linked with its ancient university. There are also many delightful shady parks, including one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens, founded in 1772.

The site is close to Coimbra’s southern ringroad and to the river Mondego. Approaching from the south take N17 towards the city centre. At the first roundabout, turn right to join Rua da Escola, and follow signs to the site.
