Alan Rogers Review
Chestnutt Holiday Park is one of the best in the southernmost corner of Northern Ireland. There are two areas designated for touring units, one on each side of the entrance road and all pitches have electricity, light, water and waste. The park is surrounded by dramatic scenery and unspoilt countryside and is an attractive choice for a beach-based holiday. The adjacent beach, with lifeguard, tennis court, small football pitch and play park will keep youngsters happy all day. The backdrop of the Mourne Mountains to the north gives the area shelter. Since the introduction of more facilities for children, Easter is becoming popular at this site.
The long sandy beaches of the Cranfield peninsula have attracted tourists for about a century. The Blue Flag beaches of picturesque Carlingford Lough have become popular with Ulster caravanners and increasingly with tourists.
Facilities
Each touring section has its own toilet block with token operated showers. The large well equipped laundry (also token operated), toilets and full facilities for disabled campers have been completely refurbished. Shop and restaurant (open Easter weekend, July/Aug). Takeaway (open as restaurant and also weekends in low season). Tennis court. Small football pitch. Play area. Adventure summer camps (8-16 year olds). Saturday club (5-14 year olds). WiFi throughout (charged).
Location
From the north follow the A2 from Newcastle and at Kilkeel follow signs for Cranfield West and then Chestnutt Holiday Park. From Newry, pass through Rostrevor and 6 miles further you will see signs for Cranfield and the site.
