Alan Rogers Review

This is a small, family run site. Useful for visiting Rome, it has its own private beach on the lake and is overlooked by the impressive Bracciano Castle. The 170 pitches, some with lake views, 120 with electricity (4-6A), are level, peaceful and shaded by very green trees. The bar/restaurant with takeaway and wood-fired pizzeria has two large terraces. Alessandro and his wife, Alessandra, have worked hard to build up this basic site since 1982. They are charming and speak excellent English.

The lake is clean for swimming with powerboats banned (it is Rome’s drinking water and separate ancient pipes directly feed the two famous fountains in Saint Peter’s Square). Small boats and windsurfers may be launched from the site. Alessandro is a Roman classical history expert and provides free documentary information on the local area and Rome. As an uncomplicated, lakeside site away from the heat and hassle of the city, it is ideal as a base. It is also well placed to visit the ancient Etruscan cities of Sutri, and Cerveteri which are two of the most ancient places in Italy and older than Rome itself.

Three sanitary units with children’s toilets and showers are showing some signs of wear and tear. Hot showers. Laundry facilities. Motorcaravan services. Gas supplies. Small shop (bread and milk to order). Bar. Trattoria/pizzeria/takeaway. Tennis. Play area. Bicycle hire. Fishing. Internet point (€ 3/h) and free WiFi. Torches required in some areas. Excursions.

From Rome ring road (GRA) northwest side take Cassia exit to Bracciano S493 (not Cassia bis which is further northeast). 2 km. before Bracciano village, just after going under a bridge, follow site signs and turn along the lake away from Anguillara. Site is 1 km. on the SP1f and has a fairly steep entrance.
