Alan Rogers Review

At Mas de Champel you will be encouraged by the friendly owners to relax in a region of natural beauty. Once a farm with orchards located at the heart of the valley of the Eyrieux, rounded river worn boulders are featured in the buildings that house the site’s very good terraced restaurant with its stunning views. With 56 generously sized touring pitches with 6A electricity and varying degrees of shade, plus 44 chalets and mobile homes to rent, the campsite is able to provide a programme of entertainment for all family members. Two good sized pools and paddling pool, plus a riverside beach offering fishing, bathing and canoeing. On weekdays in July/August children aged 4-12 yrs and then the older children have separate varied programmes of activities.

This is a less well known and quieter part of the Ardèche but the landscape is just as inviting as the more famous gorge to the south. The small village of Les Ollières-sur-Eyrieux is within easy walking distance and was once involved with the manufacture of silk. Now on a Tuesday you will find a market under the bridge over the river, a few shops and restaurants and a place that arranges canoe trips down the river with lifts back to the starting point. The campsite has canoe hire to let you try your hand at more leisurely canoeing before you take on the river rapids. The campsite owners and staff strive to make your stay live long in your memory by helping you explore the region to the full.
