Alan Rogers Review
Les Truffières is surrounded by vineyards and truffle oaks in a rural setting on the edge of the Réserve Naturelle des Gorges de l’Ardèche. There are 45 touring pitches, 25 with electricity (4/6/10A), 12 of these with water and drainage. There is a choice of shaded, partly-shaded and open pitches, some on level ground, others on terraces offering views across the Rhône valley to Mont Ventoux. A wide range of outdoor activities is available in the area. The nearby village of Saint-Marcel d’Ardèche has a bar, a restaurant, a bakery and a butcher’s shop, whilst a number of larger towns, including Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Orange, are within easy reach.
The village dates from the Middle Ages and has narrow, cobbled streets and a number of interesting churches and other buildings. Grottoes discovered nearby in 1838 cover forty kilometres of underground passages, making them among the most extensive in France and attract tourists and speleologists alike. Narrow country roads will take you to numerous picturesque villages or up into the hills and forests of the Ardèche. Alternatively, a short drive east takes you to the Rhône valley with its vineyards and historic towns.
