Alan Rogers Review

Camping les Roches has been recently renovated and can be found close to the centre of Rochefort, in the heart of the Ardennes. Despite its proximity to the town centre, this is a tranquil site, close to the large Parc des Roches. The 76 grassy touring pitches all have 16A electricity, water and drainage. They are of a good size on sloping ground. The adjacent tennis courts and municipal swimming pool are free to campers. During peak season, an entertainment team organises a range of activities for adults and children, including archery and accompanied cycle tours.

Rochefort is hard to beat as a base for exploring the Ardennes, and is maybe best known (along with Han-sur-Lesse) for its ancient limestone caves. The red marble quarries of Saint Remy are close at hand, along with an imposing monastery, renowned for its strong, dark beers. Mountain biking and hiking are very popular throughout the region, and the site’s friendly manager will be pleased to recommend routes.

Two modern, well maintained toilet blocks, heated when required, have washbasins in cabins and preset showers. Family room with shower, children’s bath and WC. Excellent unit for disabled visitors. Bar with basic snacks (July/Aug). Games/TV room. Playground. Activity and entertainment programme (July/Aug). Free Internet access and WiFi (charged) in reception.
