Alan Rogers Review

Camping les Chanterelles is some 700 metres above sea level and has access to a 14-hectare man-made lake and leisure centre (open June-August), with paddle boats, kayaks, fishing and swimming. The campsite itself is set in four hectares on gentle slopes with terraces. It is pleasantly wooded and shaded. There are 140 pitches and eight mobile homes and chalets to rent. Throughout high season, there are organised activities, including walks, for children and adults. On site there is a Kids’ Club two afternoons each week. For adults there are meals, games tournaments and some evening entertainment.

Saint-Rémy-sur-Durolle is a rather faded mountain village (640 m. away) located in Auvergne in the Livradois Regional Natural Park. Every week two markets take place near the church, on Thursday and Sunday mornings. From mid July to mid August, and 6 pm and 10 pm, night markets are held selling farm produce and local crafts. The town itself is built on quartz cliffs and affords some fine panoramic views out over the rolling wooded and forested landscape of the Auvergne.
