Alan Rogers Review
La Rotja is a pretty, Dutch-owned site, set up a little valley above the fortified old town of Villefranche-de-Conflent and watched over by the impressive, snow-capped Pic d’Canigou. The older part of the site is semi-wooded with wonderful silver birches, whilst the newer part further up the hill is more open and terraced. There is room for 100 fairly level pitches of which 80 have 6/10A electricity and one can chose a shaded place or not. A small pool at the top of the site is very welcome in high season. Trips are organized into the mountains, along with barbecue evenings.
A small bar doubles as reception and a rustic outside area allows ‘al fresco’ enjoyment of the daily menu. The site has a wonderful situation and whilst having all ‘mod cons’, the naturalness of the area has been retained. The spa town of Vernet-le-Bains in the next valley is worth visiting, as is the celebrated Fort Libéria, or walk around the walls of Villefranche-de-Conflent or even enjoy a jaunt on the Petit Train Jaune to enjoy the magnificent scenery.
Two toilet blocks, both fully equipped. The older one beside the bar area can be heated, a larger, more modern one is in the new area. Facilities for disabled visitors and babies. Bar, outside restaurant (15/5-30/9). Swimming and paddling pools (1/5-30/9). Gas barbecues only. Bicycle hire.
LocationFollow the N116 from Perpignan (route to Andorra). After 50 km. bypass Prades and continue to Villefranche-de-Conflent. Follow around and past it to take left turn signed Fuilla and Sahorre. After 2 km. turn right at village to site. Link to campsite location map on google
