Alan Rogers Review
In the heart of the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises, le Haut Salat is a simple, family run site with 136 shady pitches, some of which are occupied by mobile homes to rent. Touring pitches have electricity connections available. There is a swimming pool and direct access to the River Salat, which has a fine reputation for trout fishing. Seix is in a ‘closed’ valley and there are numerous opportunities for walking, riding, cycling, mountain-biking, rafting, canyoning and paragliding. The site is just a kilometre from the village, which has a small supermarket, shops, bars and restaurants.
The nearest town is Saint-Girons, just down the valley, whilst Foix provides a wider range of opportunities for shopping, sightseeing and entertainment. Days out could include a trip across the border into Spain or to Andorra, both a drive of about 100 km. The campsite provides full information on the wide range of walks and climbs in the surrounding countryside; these are clearly classified according to their ease or difficulty.
Sanitary blocks include facilities for disabled visitors and are heated when necessary. Washing machine, dryer and ironing room. Bread, pastries and basic provisions. Bar/snack bar. Heated swimming pool (15/6-15/9). Floodlit pétanque. TV room. Games room. Playground. Volleyball. Small football pitch. Children’s club (10/7-20/8). Organised walks. Swimming and fishing in river. Free WiFi.
