Alan Rogers Review
Situated in Mansle near the busy N10, the municipal site of Le Champion is a convenient stopover for destinations further south and a good base to explore the northern Charente area. It sits beside the Charente river close to an area which is very popular for canoeing and noise can be heard from this source. It is also next to the hippodrome which gets busy on race days but provides open grassland when not in use. The site has 120 good sized pitches, mostly separated by trees, shrubs and hedging with a mixture of open and shaded positions. There are 80 pitches with electricity (5A) and water points.
Groups are welcome and there is a dedicated area with a second toilet block at the back of the site for groups of more than ten caravans. There is a snack bar at the site entrance, together with a privately owned restaurant. There are many interesting places to visit in this area. Information on opportunities for cycling, walking, canoeing or fishing is available from reception with several guides and maps of suggested routes for sale. There is some road noise from the N10 and the river.
Modern sanitary block in municipal style includes facilities for disabled visitors. Washing machine. An additional smaller, older block is in the tenting area at the rear of the site. Motorcaravan services at entrance. Small play area. Bicycle hire. Minigolf. Basketball. Pétanque. English spoken. WiFi.
