Camping Le Balze is a quiet spot, a little removed from the hordes of visitors around Pisa’s leaning tower, Florence’s Uffizi Gallery or the UNESCO town of San Gimignano. These, however, are all within an hour and a half of the site if historical wanders appeal (and they indeed should). Roaming in the past can start closer to hand with a trip to Volterra to wander around its museums, archaeological park, acropolis, medieval town, palace and cathedral. You could also take a trip to the dozens of vineyards within an hour; this is the Chianti region, after all.

Then, head back to the site to soak up some of that vino with a bite. This terraced site has 90 grass touring pitches with 5-amp hook-up points with some pitches sloping. There’s a bar/café on site for snacks on the terrace and a small shop for stocking up on fresh bread and other essentials. If you need a lazy day on site, pull up a lounger next to the pool and let the Tuscan sun soothe away any throbbing heads.

Directions to Camping Le Balze

From the E80/SS1 take the Cecina exit and join the SP29 towards Fiorino. SS68 towards Casino di Terra, Ponteginori, Saline di Volterra and Volterra. The last section before you reach Volterra is rather twisty. On a sharp bend just before Volterra turn left onto the SP19. The site is the on Via di Mandringa which is on the left off this road.
