Alan Rogers Review
This modern lakeside site is located in the heart of the French Ardennes, an area with relatively few good quality sites. Terraced on three levels, it has 300 pitches which are generally arranged in bays for about six units, with waste bins and water taps by each area. All pitches have electricity (6/10A), and around 83 have gravel hardstanding. The terracing gives a real feeling of spaciousness and a line of tall trees running the length of the site supplies some shade. The lake beach and supervised swimming area are an 800 m. drive or rather less by a footpath from the campsite.
The site can be very busy in main season, at weekends, and on public holidays but would be quiet in low seasons. There is no restaurant or shop on site, but there is a snack bar and takeaway service. Le Chesne is only about 3 km. and has a good parking area by the side of the Canal des Ardennes.
Four modern toilet units, one heated in winter, include washbasins in cubicles. Laundry facilities. Facilities for disabled visitors at two units. Motorcaravan services. Snack bar (July/Aug). Bread van drives around the site each morning. Small playground with two adventure style units for 3-6 yrs and 4-12 yrs. Tennis. Canoe, kayak and bicycle hire. Fishing. Entertainment. Boat launching.
