Alan Rogers Review
Camping le Rioclar is a friendly, family run site set in an eight-hectare forest 1,100 m. up in the heart of the Alpes de Haute Provence. Surrounded by high mountains and bordered by a section of the River Ubaye, famous for hosting kayaking championships. There are mobile homes, chalets and caravans to rent sleeping 4-6 people and an area for tourers set in a shaded wooded part of the site. The 170 touring pitches range from 60 to 120 sq.m. and have electricity (6-10A) and water points nearby. It is a perfect location for a multitude of outdoor activities including rafting, cycling, swimming and hiking.
The Ubaye Valley is a favoured destination for cyclists wishing to conquer the Col de la Bonnet, at 2,715 m. the highest pass in Europe. The surrounding high cols are also used regularly for the Tour de France and can be an easy starting point for hiking to the top of the mountains, where you will be rewarded by breathtaking scenery.
