Alan Rogers Review
Just 27 km south of the birthplace of Aristotle is the small town of Lerissos, on the peninsula of Agio Oros, famous for Mount Athos and several Byzantine monasteries. Mount Athos has been revered as a mystical and religious centre since 800 AD, prompting the creation of the places of worship. Simonos Petras monastery, founded in the 13th century, is notable for its clifftop setting with dramatic sea views and a famed chanting choir. Lerissos offers all the usual useful shops, restaurants, amenities, and a long sandy beach.
Camping Delphini offers a very simple, quiet campsite surrounded by fields in a rural area, set back a few hundred metres from the nearest beach. This is a place to visit if you are looking for a restful break and are not seeking all the facilities of the bigger beach-front sites. There are 75 pitches which are all for touring units, in a wooded area. The dense trees provide ample shade, so there are none of the horizontal screens found on many other Greek campsites. The restaurant and bar provide simple Greek meals and a place to chat with the locals in the cool shade of the terrace or under a parasol.
The toilet block includes showers, WCs (some Turkish) and washbasins. Kitchen with sinks, electric hobs and fridges. Laundry with washing machines. Bar and simple restaurant.
LocationCamping Delphini is just 2 km. south of Lerissos on the main Agio Oros coast road. Link to campsite location map on google
