Alan Rogers Review
Well located beside the River Meuse, Camping Communal De Devant Bouvignes is about a 20-minute walk into the town of Dinant, or an unmarked cycle path is available on the western bank. It's an attractive town with a picturesque waterfront backed by toy-like houses dwarfed by the onion-domed church and the massive cliffs topped by the imposing citadel. Nearby are castles, abbeys and pleasant gardens to visit.
Sanitary facilities are modern and well-kept, with a token system operating for showers. The touring pitches are all on grass, and several permanent pitches are located on the site's river side; these are allocated to seasonal or longer-term rentals. There can be some road noise and freight traffic on the railway on the opposite side of the river.
When visiting Dinant, a cable car trip to the citadel is worth a visit, and you should also keep your eyes open for one of the several statues around the town commemorating the birth of Adolph Sax, the inventor of the Saxophone who was born in the town. Don't miss the Leffe Maison tour if you're a beer fan.
