Alan Rogers Review
Mount Athos is a Holy mountain to the Greeks, and at 2,030 m. it is the highest point of Halkidiki’s most easterly peninsula. Camping Comitsa is a modern site of the ‘all singing, all dancing’ variety (Greek style). It has 110 pitches, of which 45 are for touring, although most will not be suitable for vehicles over 2.6 m. high because of the screens that provide much needed shade. Having said that, if your vehicle is low enough, the site offers excellent facilities in a fascinating location.
Unique in Greece, Athos is an autonomous republic ruled by the 1,700 monks who live in the 20 monasteries. Only adult males may visit the peninsula and then you need a special permit and only ten are issued each day; so for many people the campsite may be the closest you will get, apart from one of the regular boat trips to see the monasteries at a distance.
Two excellent toilet blocks include showers, WCs and washbasins. Two kitchens include sinks, electric hobs and fridges. Laundry with washing machine. Well stocked shop. Bar. Restaurant. Club/TV room. Sandy beach in sheltered cove. Tents, rooms, bamboo huts and caravans to rent. Dogs are not accepted.

Site is 4.8 km. south of N Roda on Agio Oros (not on map). Driving south from Lerissos go through N Roda, turn left at football field then first right bearing left down to coast. At beach turn right and after 200 m. fork right onto unpaved road for 3.9 km. to site.
