Alan Rogers Review
This useful, all-year site is Dutch owned and in traditional style. In a rural setting, there are views over the Gironde estuary from the bar terrace above the small (unheated) swimming pool. The site is arranged in a number of paddocks and is part terraced, part sloping. There are 50 pitches (45 for tourers), all on grass with electricity hook-ups (6/10A), well spaced and quite shady. Some are a fair distance from the facilities which are grouped around the reception area. It can be quite a steep walk up from the lowest pitches. Access to some pitches may be difficult for large or tall units especially in inclement weather.
The site is not suitable for American RVs. The cosy bar and restaurant can provide takeaways. There is an unfenced wildlife pond so small children need to be supervised. The nearest town with shops and services is Saint Cier-sur-Gironde (2.5 km). A 40 km. long cycle trail passes the site and there are good walks available in the adjacent forest. This is a popular stop off in autumn and spring for those travelling to and from over-wintering in Spain.
One small traditional toilet block, with modern fittings and underfloor heating. Facilities for babies and a suite for disabled visitors. Washing machine. These facilities could be stretched in peak season. Fresh bread delivered. Bar and takeaway with terrace (1/5-15/9). Swimming and paddling pools (1/5-15/9). Riding (stabling arranged). Playground. Games room with WiFi and internet terminal. Trampoline. Boules. Bicycle hire. Low key animation and entertainment organised in season. No charcoal barbecues in summer.
LocationSt Palais is on the D255, just west of the N137 and 6 km. south of Mirambeau and A10 exit 37. Site is southwest of village on minor road off the D255 and is well signed.
