Spacious and wooded, Castel Rose stretches for more than a kilometre along the banks of one of France’s most beautiful rivers, the Gardon d’Anduze. The site’s long, private river beach is protected from the currents of the river by an artificial breakwater. The 218 touring pitches, all with 10A electricity, are level and marked out with mature trees. The site is set away from the busy main road and at night all you will hear is the sound of the water. The pretty town of Anduze is a 15 minute walk from the site where you can admire and buy its world famous pottery.
Local attractions include the ‘bambouseraie’, a bamboo plantation which is unique in Europe and the steam train of the Cevennes, not forgetting the impressive regional arts and crafts, produce, markets and museums. Less than an hour away, to the north, lie the Cevennes, to the south, Provence and the Mediterranean and its beaches. A short walk north along the river reveals evidence of years of erosion, which has created interesting rose coloured rocks of various forms.
