Alan Rogers Review

Camping Capalbio is a simple coastal site with a wide, grey sand beach and will appeal to those keen on ‘back to nature’ experiences. The 175 pitches set in the dunes are charmingly private with tall hedges, 3A electricity, and many have artificial shade. Some are alongside the beach and very secluded. The low key restaurant and bar have a fair choice of food and drinks at reasonable prices. Do not expect too much by way of entertainment here but you will get peace by the bucketful.

A tiny beach bar serves cool drinks in high season. This part of southern Tuscany is sometimes overlooked, given the wealth of places of interest further north. However, the ancient village of Capalbio and the beautiful Lago di Burano are both well worth discovering. Dogs are welcome and free.

Three blocks have basic but clean services, but only the central block has hot showers (tokens) and it is some distance from peripheral pitches. Baby facilities in restaurant toilet area. Motorcaravan services. Supermarket. Bar. Restaurant. Beach bar (high season). Takeaway food. Live musical entertainment in peak season. Direct access to beach. Basic play area. Tennis. Bicycle hire. WiFi in bar area (charged). Mobile homes and chalets for rent.

Head south from Livorno and Pisa on the SS1 (Via Aurelia). Shortly after passing the Lago di Burano, ignore sign to Capalbio to the left, but take the next road to the right (signed Chiarone Scalo). Site is well signed from here.
