Alan Rogers Review

In a wooded location in Lower Saxony, this is a simple, family-run campsite on the bank of the River Aller. There are 100 touring pitches which are not marked, so you choose your spot in the open or under trees, with electricity connections (10A) and water taps nearby and a field for groups and tents. Being close to the Hamburg/Hanover motorway this is a convenient stop-over point, but it is well worth staying a few days to explore the surrounding countryside on foot, by bike or by car or to visit Hanover. Shops are to be found in the neighbouring town of Schwarmstedt. Some road noise can be heard.

Nearby Walsrode has what is claimed to be the world’s largest bird park; there is also a tropical hall, plus grazing animals and an adventure playground. There are other wildlife and adventure parks in the area, and Hanover has an important zoo. Celle is one of Germany’s most interesting historical, half-timbered towns. In stark contrast is the Bergen-Belsen Memorial, with graves and memorials commemorating those who died in the Concentration Camp - including Anne Frank.
