Les Amis de la Plage, a former municipal site, and now a member of the Campéole group, is located on the southern side of the Ile de Ré, at Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré. The site has direct gated access across the sand dunes to a superb sandy beach. There are 252 pitches, some of which are occupied by mobile homes, chalets and fully equipped tents. The 135 touring pitches are sandy with varying degrees of shade, some are rather small and others are on undulating land. Just over half have electrical connections (10A). The island’s largest market is held daily, just 500 m. from the site.
The Ile de Ré is well known for its cycle tracks and a number of these pass close to the site. It is a great way to explore the island. Also recommended is the Maison du Platin, an interesting eco-museum, dedicated to the Ile de Ré’s heritage and traditions. The island’s capital Saint Martin is an easy drive away and provides a wide range of shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants; it is an attractive town whose life centres round the thriving port and marina; there are also buildings of historical interest, not least the fortifications by the military architect Vauban.
