Alan Rogers Review

This lovely little mountain site is well situated on the edge of a small village and is open all year round. It takes its name from the magnificent, centuries old chestnut trees. The owners here have completely cleared a former campsite and started afresh. The sanitary facilities are of top quality, the pool, bar and small restaurant are also very good. The pretty Swiss-style rental chalets and the pitches are on terraced ground and all 15 touring pitches have access to 3A electricity. The amenities here promise to make this site extremely popular with people looking for a quiet site with some dramatic scenery.

Although on-site facilities are limited, the charming village of Montecreto is less than 300 m. away and provides shops, restaurants, bars and a disco. The Monte Cervarola chairlift (1,623 m) provides access to the surrounding high mountains with marvellous summer walking and winter skiing or snowboarding on Monte Cimone of which Montecreto is a part. While the friendly owner does not speak English, he employs multi-lingual staff during the high season.

The new, purpose built toilet block is heated, clean and provides very good facilities. Facilities for disabled visitors. Laundry with washing machines and dryers. Restaurant/bar (all year). Swimming pool (1/6-30/9). Play area. Bicycle hire. Barbecues are not permitted.

Site is clearly signed from the centre of Montecreto which is near Sestola on the SS324. The site is best approached from Modena as the southern approach, from Pistioa or Lucca via Abetone, involves steep climbs and numerous hairpin bends, but the views are spectacular.
