Benesov’s chief claim to fame is the Konopiste Palace, the last home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand whose assassination in Sarajevo led to the First World War in 1914. Autocamp Konopiste is part of a motel complex with excellent facilities situated in a very quiet, tranquil location south of Prague. On a hillside, rows of terraces separated by hedges provide 65 grassy pitches of average size, 50 with electricity (10A). A fitness centre and heated swimming pool are shared with motel guests, and there are many sporting opportunities both on site and nearby.
Near the motel is the Stodola restaurant, open each evening from 6 pm. until 1 am. and this attractive replica of an old Czech barn is well worth a visit. With local specialities served by girls in local costume in a candlelit atmosphere and accompanied by a small, live music quartet, it is an evening to remember (booking essential).
