Alan Rogers Review

Oswiecim is a name that many will not have heard, but any mention of the German equivalent, Auschwitz, evokes fear in almost everyone. Founded in 1992 this centre gives the outward appearance of being a first class hotel. Its aim is to create a venue for meetings, exchanges, education, reflection and prayer for all those who visit Auschwitz and are moved by what happened here. To further this aim campers are welcome to use the landscaped gardens with tents, motorcaravans or caravans and use the centre’s facilities. Electricity has been provided (6A) with 20 pitches either on the grass or on the large parking area.

The state museum in Oswiecim – Auschwitz/Birkenau, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only a few minutes walk away, and is open almost every day of the year. No visitor can leave unmoved. Entrance is free and guided tours are available in English; alternatively you could buy the English guide book and walk around on your own.

Location

Directions

The centre is 600 m. from the Auschwitz museum on the road to the south running parallel to the road that serves the museum. It is on the 950/933 and is situated between a roundabout and a large electricity substation. It appears to be a first class hotel from the outside and has facilities to match.
