Alan Rogers Review

A peaceful, family owned, rural site, Acorn is situated on the Heritage Coast, one mile from the beach and the historic town of Llantwit Major. The 105 pitches are mostly on grass, with a few private mobile homes at the far end, leaving around 90 pitches for touring units, including eight gravel hardstandings and 71 electric hook-ups (10A). There is a separate area for tents. Reception houses a very well stocked shop which includes groceries and essentials, souvenirs, children’s toys, camping gear and takeaway meals cooked to order. There is occasional aircraft noise.

Site lighting is kept to a minimum to allow guests to enjoy the night sky – a torch might be useful. The Glamorgan Heritage Coastal Footpath is a short walk from the site and Llantwit Major is also worth a visit, particularly Saint Illtud’s church for its wall paintings, medieval altar and collection of Celtic stones.

A warm, modern building houses spacious shower cubicles with washbasins, ample WCs, a family/baby room, and a suite for disabled campers. Laundry facilities. Takeaway meals. Shop. Gas. TV lounge. Games room (charged). Play area with free trampoline. WiFi (free).
