Alan Rogers Review

The location of this site is really quite spectacular, lying in the shadow of the Château of William the Conqueror, within walking distance of the historic town of Falaise in the Coeur de Normandie. The site itself is small, with only 66 pitches (most with electricity) either beside the little river, on a terrace above or on gently sloping ground. With trees and hedges providing some shade as well as open grassed areas, this site has a rather intimate, up-market feel about it, different from the average municipal site. Charges are reasonable and the reception friendly.

Apart from the well-known castle, Falaise was a famous place during WW2 when the Allies virtually surrounded the German army here. The area is also famous for its cheeses and apples – especially those made into cider, pommeau and Calvados. It is equally a good centre for exploring other parts of Normandy, including the city of Caen, Pegasus Bridge or Lisieux, the home of Saint Theresa of that name.

Facilities

Although the sanitary facilities are dated, they are of good quality and kept clean. Free hot water to showers, washbasins in cubicles for ladies and laundry and dishwashing sinks (all closed overnight). Unit for disabled visitors (shower room and separate WC). Motorcaravan services. Excellent play area for younger children. Tennis courts and boules pitch. TV room. Fishing. Free WiFi access.
